Update – Recovery 12 – Great Day
Today was a great day. Beth had her appointment with the orthopedic PA, Katie Schwartz. Katie assisted Dr. Drake in the OR when he did the surgery, so she was very familiar with the case.
The X-Rays showed that everything was good, both with her pelvis and her shoulder. It was very interesting to see the image of the two screws they inserted. Each is about 4 in. long. Katie had a styrofoam pelvic bone so she could show us the location of the breaks and where they inserted the screws.
Beth was pronounced fit to fly. That set in motion the process of scheduling our return flight and prescribing medications for us to take with us.
We are booked on a flight leaving Billings Friday, June 24 at 1:45 p.m. We have a 2-1/2 hour layover in Dallas, and get into Tampa just after midnight. Beth will have a medical escort and seats in Business/First Class. ( I believe she will have 2 seats so she can sit sideways and elevate her leg.)
The medical supply company delivered a hospital bed and wheelchair to our home late this afternoon. Neighbors managed the delivery and placement of the bed the way Beth wants it. We have in place all the equipment needed for the flight home and at home.
Beth is feeling very good. She takes one pain pill before bed to help her sleep. She needs to take the anti-blood clot medication for just 5 more days.
We are in the home stretch and ready to continue Beth’s recovery at home.
Getting home will be a major milestone and will be followed by seven weeks of recovery. We’ll discover a new routine as we settle in. Thank you for your continued concern and well-wishes.
