Awaiting the Verdict
The first thing we did this morning after breakfast was walk down the street to the corner to see what stores and restaurants are nearby. We found the Mt. Vernon Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. There were brochures for places in the area and craft and art works by local artisans. We had a nice conversation with lady who works there. Outside the building there were some modern sculptures.
The lady mentioned the town hosted the “Run for the Wall” riders yesterday. They filled up their tanks and provided lunch at the restaurant at the airport. What a generous gesture. BTW, “Run for the Wall” is a ride across the country to Washington, DC and the annual Rolling Thunder demonstration on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Beth and I have been to Rolling Thunder several times. You can read my account of the 2017 Rolling Thunder here: /rt17-on-the-road/
We needed a few lunch items (and beer) so I took the new Kroger Lady shopping.
The Verdict Is In
We are going old school and rebuilding the top end of the motor.
After talking with the service writer, who gave us vague answers and indefinite time frames, we asked the general manager to get involved. He arranged for an independent shop to order parts and get the top end rebuilt. We will be getting new valves, guides, seals, etc. and 10-over pistons and rings. The shop will bore the cylinders. The Harley tech will put it all together next week if all the parts arrive and the machine shop finishes its work. The dealership is closed Monday, so we may get on the road Wednesday. It feels good to have a plan and not live in limbo.
We were going to go out for wings for dinner, but just noticed a downpour. We’ll have to drop back and punt and eat some bag ‘o salad from our little refrigerator and sneak down to the lobby to heat up 8 little meatballs in the common area microwave.
Beth says we are going to a movie tomorrow.
I think a lot of parts are getting really hard to find at least Harley parts but it seems like the aftermarket parts are pretty readily available
Glad you have a plan!
enjoy the movie…
Im certainly glad you have a plan now. The time you have to sacrifice isnt ideal but its out of your hands. Hopefully you can find enough activities to keep you occupied until then. Tis the life of a rider!!!
Don’t Give Up
Better Days Ahead
At least you still have one bike to get around with.
Good Luck
Glad you are safe and hope to have Beth’s bike back up and running perfect for your continued travels. Travel Safe!

Glad you two will be able to continue this adventure after all!
Sounds quite involved.
