Waiting Around
Now that the dealership has a plan for repairing Beth’s bike, we wait. Our routine starts with a half-hour in the gym followed by the breakfast buffet. We make our usual sandwiches for lunch and eat dinner out.
We felt ourselves sinking into our chairs this morning, so we put on the gear and went for a ride. We rode downtown for a quick tour of Main Street and then went to Walmart for some fabric waterproofing spray.
I sprayed my riding pants and a few strategic locations on Beth’s pants.
Late afternoon we walked to the movies and saw the new “Top Gun Maverick.” It was entertaining. The Navy guy in me saw a few glaring errors so, I’m going to have to watch Ward Carroll on YouTube to see his list of errors.
We stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner.
There are plenty of TVs to occupy your time while waiting for your order. (That’s an IPA and a Porter.)
This evening we soaked in the hot tub and now we are chillin’.
BTW – we read and love all your comments. This blog doesn’t have a “Like” feature for us to use as a response. Thank you for taking an interest in our travels.
Dinner suggestion. Large tub of popcorn, large bag of M and M’s. Lots of faux butter. Empty m & m’s into popcorn.
Salt to taste. Enjoy. Makes even a mediocre film a joy.
Mrs EZMOTOTIM here…sounds yummy, but I’m not sure how well my clothes would fit after a few of those!
Plan B can be rewarding too.
Here are a few suggestions for you to look at.
There is a route I loved to take a couple of times a year. We would leave from Salem and take State roads and not the interstate but could go from Mt. Vernon. And we headed off to Alton River Road north. you would find many motorcycles & enthusiasts along this road. It follows the Illinois Missouri River many miles. We would stay on the Illinois side most of the way. You would find cliffs with wineries built on top of the cliffs with lovely views but hard to get up. Pretty steep climb on a bike. I did it but I was scared LOL.
I f you keep going north and get to Pere Marquette State Park. There you can ride a ferry across over to Missouri ride north to Hardin MO cross back over on a bridge. When you get to that road there is an older restaurant that serves fresh fish caught out on the river that day. Heading back south toward Mt. Vernon. You can find county roads to travel and stay off of I 64 if you wanted that’s the way we went. It would be a day trip and because of Memorial Day weekend I am not sure of the traffic. Lots of motorcycles. On the river you can watch eagles swoop down for their meals. Grafton is a tourist type town but quite fun if you wanted to stop and look around. Plenty of restaurants and such. Looks to be about a 250 mile day by the time you got home. Just an option. It has been about 10 years since I rode these so many things could have changed by now.
Also St. Louis is home of the Arch and a wonderful St. Louis Zoo. Just a few suggestions. I must warn you St. Louis is now considered #1 in dangerous cities for crime and murders.
Rend Lake is south of Mt Vernon and is one of Il largest man made lakes nice to ride through. It wouldn’t be far from you at all.
Thank you. I’ve plotted the route and we’ll go when the weather clears. My brother is stopping by for lunch tomorrow.
I spoke to Charlie Nolan and told him where you are. (he lived there) The dealership was started by Dale Wexler the guy that owned Wheels through Time in Maggie Valley. He was the youngest owner at just 22y.
The dealership is now owned by Dale Sledge (general manager) and others.
I was just updating my insurance policy and I noticed there was some insurance for trip interruption if your more then 100 miles away from home. I don’t know if it’s worth using or not but it might be if you are going to be there any longer than than dealer says.
We are using the benefits of the ESP, which covers lodging and meals for up to 10 days. I hadn’t thought about coverage on our insurance policy. I’ll have to look into that as well. Thank you.
