  1. Thanks for the blog, Tim…I’ve enjoyed reading it! A few questions and/or comments…

First off, do the wet vests really do all that much good? We’re headed out I-40 from Nashville to Santa Fe, NM the first week in September. Might be a few degrees cooler by then, but we’re expecting it to still be very hot. So, your honest thoughts and recommendations on the vests will be greatly appreciated.

Your observation about the truck traffic between Little Rock and Memphis is spot on. I will do almost anything to avoid it. If it isn’t too much out of my way, I like to take TN 412 from Jackson, TN west into Arkansas. Definitely not as fast as I-40 but it’s a much prettier ride with less traffic and it avoids Memphis.

Sounds like you live in the Tampa/St. Pete area. We moved from there to Nashville 20 years ago. not much we miss about Florida. The beaches were nice, the weather more temperate, but that’s about it. The traffic was awful, but then Nashville traffic ain’t no picnic now, either!

Is that overheating a Harley thing? Never had such a problem with my Goldwing. I’ve got 88,000 miles on this one, and about all I do before a long road trip is make sure to change the oil and put on good tires. Never once had to visit a dealer for trouble on the road.

    • By overheating, I mean too hot to sit on in crawling traffic, but, yes, Harley motors are air cooled and can overheat.
Wet vests are very good in low humidity conditions. We had to abandon them mid-way through Arkansas.
We needed to get home quickly for Beth’s work. We’ll try by-passing Little Rock to Memphis next time.
Goldwings don’t break down because there are as many dealers. 😁
      Thanks for following along.
