Much of US-19 is a very pleasant 4-lane divided highway.

There is also a stretch of winding, 2-lane road where we encountered a construction delay. They were cleaning out the ditches on both sides of the road.

I wonder how a winding country road got picked to be a US highway when they were putting the system together 100 years ago.
We took our morning break at a gas station that has some tables.

Beth had noticed that she had difficulty shifting – her boot couldn’t get far enough under the front shift pedal. I pulled out my tools and adjusted the linkage for her. She reports it’s much improved.

We did a check-in at Cole Harley-Davidson in Bluefield, WV.

Our picnic lunch was in a very nice, no-fee, state park.

Our afternoon break consisted of topping off the gas tanks and shopping for dinner at Walmart.

The afternoon temps were in the mid-90s. It was a very long day — we were in the saddle for 12 hours. Reaching the Quality Inn in Fairmont, WV, was a welcome relief.
