An Easy, Hot Day
Today we restarted our trip to St. Catherines. We got an early start hoping the morning would be cool, but it was 89 deg. at 7:00 a.m. The temperature rose all day. At one point the readout on my bike said 103 deg., but it’s always optimistic by 4 degrees.
Other than the heat, we had an easy ride north on I-75.

Our first stop was in Gainesville at a Marathon station and food mart. The place was clean and it smelled good.

We sat at a counter that was designed as a place to use your laptop and charge your phone. Is this the start of a trend in convenience stores?

Lunch was at a rest area. We snagged the only picnic table under a canopy

Once we got into Macon, the GPS took us off I-75 on a corkscrew route. At one point it wanted us to make a hairpin left turn where that wasn’t possible. Eventually it put us back on I-75. Crazy!
One thing I forgot to do yesterday was put the hitch ball cover back on Beth’s bike. The crazy GPS route took us by a U-Haul store. Ahhh, someone was sending a message!

I bought a cover and installed it, after which Vanna pointed out its fine features.

Our hotel was just a couple of miles up the road and around the corner.

After showers and a brief rest, we walked next door to the bar for a beer.

Tomorrow, we head back to the point near Asheville where we departed US-19 last Friday to go to the Harley dealership. From there we’ll complete the trek up 19 to Erie over the next couple of days.
Glad you and Vanna are surviving the heat!
The heat is a challenge, but there is always a shower to look forward to at the end of the day. Camelbacks are essential as well.
Even though it was a rocky start hope it’s a smooth trip from here on out. Be safe out there.
Thank you. Round 2 is going well.
I don’t know if lunch counters are a trend in convenience stores, but I hope they are! Always kind of gripes me to buy a sandwich at Buc-ees and then have no place to sit down and enjoy it! I’m hoping our new Wawa in Nashville will have a few seats to eat at. Hope your good weather and maintenance-free trip continues for you!
Our Wawas have tables outside. We were able to snag one in Starke, FL for our picnic lunch.
Do you guys do the let’s ride challenge from Harley
Yes, we do. Just have to remember to start it up.
Hey Tim, Wondering what you had to do to fix your bike – alleviate the need for the piece of wood? Wishing you both the best in reliability.
I’ll fix my bike when I get back. I’m riding my “spare” bike, a 2018 Tri Glide. Thank you.
