We had beautiful, cool weather today. Our route took us to a couple more sites along Route 66. Our first stop was the Conoco gas station in Shamrock, TX. The old station is now a visitors’ center. It also has a modern touch with a Tesla charging station in the rear.

Next we stopped to take pictures of Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo. The cars are slowly disintegrating and are covered with inches of paint. They are, however, very colorful.

We stopped for coffee and a muffin at the Midpoint Café in Adrian, TX. Of course we took a picture of the sign marking the midpoint of Route 66.

Our route took us through some very uninhabited sections of north-eastern New Mexico. We stopped for lunch at Russell’s Travel Center off I-25 near Springer, NM. There are several classic cars squeezed into a corner of the gift shop.

We followed Route 64 west over the mountains to Taos, NM. The summit of that highway has an elevation of 9,125 ft. according to my GPS. After checking into our hotel we rode downtown to The Plaza and had dinner at the Alley Cantina. The building is reported to be the oldest in Taos.

Tomorrow we cross over more mountains and take in one of Rick’s bucket list sites, the 4 corners.
