It was chilly and threatening rain when we started out from Taos.

We put on all our rain gear and headed West. We crossed two mountain passes. The first was about 8800 ft., the second 10,536 ft. There was still snow on the hillsides. Near the top it was raining and the air temperature was 38 degrees. Needless to say, we used extreme caution on our descent.

We stopped for gas in Chama, NM and took a few pictures of the Cubres and Toltec narrow gauge railroad.

We ran into more rain and lightning on our way to Farmington. We had lunch in Shiprock before heading to the 4 Corners Monument. We got our pictures straddling the 4 states, but…

not before running into trouble. The main parking area was full, so I headed to the left of the parked cars and got into slick mud. It took a long time to inch my way out with the help of a couple of extra guys. In the process I overheated the clutch.

I called a tow truck who took us to a hotel in Cortez, CO and dropped the bike at a local shop. They will look at it in the morning. The nearest Triumph dealer is in Albuquerque. I hope he can get whatever parts we need.
